ITS THAT TIME OF THE MONTH AGAIN. LOH 155

Being a woman isn’t such an easy task to handle, at every given stage of our lives we go through different changes both physically and mentally, our monthly visitor isn’t such a strange visitor but sometimes it often acts as one, because sometimes it often gives us signs that its on is way but some other times it doesn’t.

I may not be speaking generally but personally for me, its what I experience, some times I get to experience bloated tummy, indigestion, severe breast pains, nausea, and stooling… writing on this particular topic gave me a flash back about what I experienced some months back when i had my menstruation, that particular day, I went to work so I started feeling hungry, I had to look for food to buy, I bought the food and ate it all, but after some hours, I started feeling really uncomfortable, I could feel it that the food was not about to digest anytime soon.

I had to take an excuse from work to go to my mum’s side so that I could comfortably use the rest room, I got home and dashed into toilet, after some minutes I was done but still my tummy got bloated the more, the next thing I found my self doing was vomiting, I had vomited everything that was in my stomach, my elder sister became scared because I was just vomiting continuously,the more I threw the more my tummy got bloated, she had to rush to the pharmacy to buy drugs, I took the drugs then I became calm after some time, but unknowingly to me that my menstruation was just around the corner, later on I started having slight pains in my lower abdomen, and the next I saw later that evening was my monthly visitor!

I TAKE CARE OF MY PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH BY;

• Firstly I’m mostly faced by pains, indigestion and bloated tummy, so I mostly watch what I eat, where I buy the food from, some times I get pain killers to suppress the pains.

• when it comes to my mental health during these times, I sometimes get aggressive and easily angered due to the pains, so I mostly keep to myself, I try as much as possible to be nice to others, and be calm.

• I normally get pads on time, I get the one of 30 in a pack, it consists of pads and panty liners, I used the pads on my heavy flow days, then I use the liners and the finishing days.

• I also try to change my pads regularly so as to avoid stains

• Although I get mad cravings for sweet foods, like carbonated drinks, chocolates and even cakes, i try my best to avoid such food, but some I still fall victim to eating them.

• I mostly drink hot or warm water as it helps to melt clotted blood, and I also apply heat balm at night as it helps to relax the muscles that contribute to cramps.

Those are some good tips on taking care during these heavy days. I have never had bloating and vomiting issues but severe breast pain was always an indicator and sometimes it would get unbearable. These symptoms are difficult to deal with even after taking good care.
