LOH #150: The muse of venezuelan dances: Yolanda Moreno. (ENG/ESP).

Greetings, friends of the LOH community! It is a pleasure for me to participate again in a contest of this community, and I must say that I really liked this week's questions, they made me remember parts of my city that I have visited with great historical burden, and also in the women of my country who have represented it in the best way, leaving an enduring and appreciated legacy. I was more inclined to the question, "Which woman in the history of your country do you identify with, and why?". So without further ado, I will tell you about the life of Yolanda Moreno.

Es un placer para mí participar nuevamente en un concurso de esta comunidad, y debo decir que las preguntas de esta semana me gustaron mucho, me hicieron recordar partes de mi ciudad que he visitado con gran carga histórica, y también en las mujeres de mi país que lo han representado de la mejor manera, dejando un legado perdurable y apreciado. Me incliné más por la pregunta: “¿Con cuál mujer de la historia de tu país te identificas, y por qué?”. Así que sin más que agregarles, les comento acerca de la vida de Yolanda Moreno.

Yolanda Moreno is an icon of folkloric dance in Venezuela. To become one, she did not have an easy path, since she comes from a family with scarce economic resources. However, since she was a child she had the clear idea that she wanted to dedicate her life to art, and although she did not have in mind that it would be through dance, when she joined a choir group at the age of 13, she stood out as a talented young woman and this talent led her to dance. The folkloric dances of my country, or at least as I know them, are artistic presentations accompanied by popular songs with dancers with their hair tied up in buns, and beautiful, large, and very colorful skirts. Something unmistakable is the sound of the zapateo produced by the dancing heels, and the way the dancers make use of the skirts for the dance, with controlled and at the same time energetic movements; all this artistic performance was taken by Yolanda to many countries such as China, New York, Puerto Rico and Argentina, just to mention a few.

Yolanda Moreno es ícono de las danzas folklóricas de Venezuela. Para llegar a serlo, no tuvo un camino fácil, ya que proviene de una familia con escasos recursos económicos. Sin embargo, desde pequeña tenía clara la idea de que quería dedicar su vida al arte, y aunque no tuvo en mente que fuera a través del baile, al unirse a un grupo de coro a sus 13 años, destacó como una joven con talento y dicho talento la dirigió a las danzas. Las danzas folklóricas de mi país, o por lo menos como yo las conozco, son presentaciones artísticas acompañadas de canciones populares con bailarinas con sus cabellos recogidos en moños, y hermosas, grandes, y muy vistosas faldas. Algo inconfundible es el sonido del zapateo producido por los tacones de baile, y la manera en la que las bailarinas hacen uso de las faldas para el baile, con movimientos controlados y al mismo tiempo enérgicos; toda esta representación artística fue llevada por Yolanda a muchos países como China, Nueva York, Puerto Rico y Argentina, sólo por mencionar algunos.

What makes me identify with Yolanda is that I admire her tenacity and perseverance to represent my country from something as full and beautiful as art. I want for my life to do something with purpose, and sometimes I have thought that I lacked more development in an artistic branch to be able to fulfill an artistic purpose as an adult, but I think that Yolanda is an example that age does not have much to do with success, but values such as discipline, love and self-confidence. Another thing I admire about her and with which I identify, is how sensitive she is towards young people who are dedicated to the arts, especially dances; she knows that the road is very hard, but sometimes all you need is someone to accompany you and guide you to take the right steps. I would like to be in the future a woman whom people, especially if they are more inexperienced than me, see in me a source of knowledge and sensitivity to lean on, and who will accompany them in the realization of their dreams, but also be a helping hand in times of failures. Lo que me hace identificarme con Yolanda es que admiro su tenacidad y constancia para representar a mi país desde algo tan pleno y hermoso como es el arte. Yo quiero para mi vida hacer algo con propósito, y a veces he pensado que me faltó más desarrollarme en una rama artística para poder cumplir un propósito artístico siendo adulta, pero pienso que Yolanda es un ejemplo que la edad no tiene mucho que ver con el éxito, sino valores como la disciplina, el amor y la confianza en sí mismo. Otra cosa que admiro de ella y con la que me identifico, es con lo sensible que es hacia los jóvenes que se dedican a las artes, en especial a las danzas; ella sabe que el camino es muy duro, pero que a veces todo lo que necesitas es alguien que te acompañe y te oriente a dar los pasos correctos. Quisiera ser en un futuro una mujer a quien las personas, en especial si son más inexpertas que yo, vean en mí una fuente de conocimiento y sensibilidad en la que respaldarse, y que les acompañará en la realización de sus sueños, pero también sea una mano amiga en tiempos de fracasos.
