Stepping forward: embracing the past and future (Loh#218).

As I reflect on the past year, I can't help but feel a mix of nostalgia and anticipation for what lies ahead. Being a 20-year-old studying accounting, I've experienced a whirlwind of growth, challenges, and dreams that have shaped my journey. This year has been a significant chapter in my life, one filled with both achievements and aspects that I feel I’ve left behind.

At the beginning of the year, I set several goals for myself—academically, personally, and professionally. I wanted to excel in my accounting courses, maintain a healthy social life, and perhaps even secure an internship that would give me practical experience in the field. Looking back, I can proudly say that I’ve made strides in my studies. My grades reflect my hard work, and I’ve developed a deeper understanding of complex accounting principles. However, I realize that I didn’t fully embrace opportunities outside of my studies. I often found myself buried in textbooks and assignments, leaving little room for social activities or extracurricular involvement.

One of the aspects I feel I left behind this year is the pursuit of my hobbies. I used to enjoy painting and writing, but as my coursework intensified, those passions took a backseat. I miss the creative outlet they provided, and I find myself yearning for the joy they brought me. It’s a reminder that while academic success is important, nurturing our passions is equally vital for a balanced life. As I step into the new year, I’m determined to carve out time for these activities, allowing myself to explore my creativity alongside my studies.

In terms of dreams and aspirations, I still hold a few close to my heart. One of my biggest dreams is to become a certified public accountant (CPA) and work for a reputable firm. While I’ve made progress toward this goal, I know there’s still a long way to go. The CPA exam looms ahead, and I often feel a mix of excitement and anxiety about it. I dream of the day I can walk into a firm, equipped with the knowledge and skills I’ve acquired, ready to make a difference in the financial world. However, I also recognize that this journey requires dedication and perseverance, and I’m committed to putting in the effort needed to achieve it. In conclusion, as this year comes to an end, I find myself reflecting on both my accomplishments and the aspects of my life I wish to revive. I’m grateful for the growth I’ve experienced in my studies, but I also recognize the importance of balance and pursuing my passions. As I move forward, I’m excited to embrace new opportunities, chase my dreams, and make the most of the coming year.
