SECRET N ° 290 The Five Kingdoms and the Secret of Vote-Com chap 21

FERROKA – The Rage of Kaelos

The fires of the forges lit up the night sky with a bloody glow. Towering columns of smoke rose into the heavy air as the relentless hammering of steel echoed through the depths of the Iron Bastion. Ferroka never slept. Every night, the Warlord’s army grew stronger—its blades sharper, its siege engines deadlier.

But tonight, something was different.

Standing on the balcony of the fortress, Kaelos Drak gazed down at his legions. His soldiers trained tirelessly, their silhouettes shifting like specters in the light of the blazing furnaces. And yet, he could feel it—a silent tension hanging in the air, an imperceptible hesitation.

His fists clenched. He knew why.

The SECRET.

It was no longer just an underground trade or an obscure currency. It was corrupting the very foundations of war.

The Council of Generals
In the great war hall, an immense stone table dominated the center, etched with a map of the Five Kingdoms. Metallic figures marked the positions of various forces, yet some territories—once allies—seemed… uncertain.

Around the table stood Kaelos’s generals. These were no mere officers—each had conquered lands, crushed rebellions, and shattered sieges. And yet, tonight, one of them would betray him.

Kaelos spoke, his voice striking like a hammer on an anvil.

— "We have waited too long. The SECRET is no longer a hidden threat. It is everywhere. It has infected our cities, our markets… and now, our soldiers."

A murmur rippled through the assembly.

Varok the Steelbreaker, his most loyal commander, straightened.

— "My Lord, our own men already use the SECRET. If forced to choose between their comfort and their loyalty… some will not stand with us."

Kaelos locked eyes with him, his gaze like tempered steel.

— "Then we shall see who is worthy to wield a blade under my banner."

A heavy silence followed.

Then, slowly, a man stepped back.

The First Strategist, Malrik the Shadow. A cunning, cautious man… and too intelligent to be truly loyal.

— "My Lord…," he murmured. "The markets are tied to the SECRET. If we wage war against it, we risk collapsing our economy."

Kaelos did not respond immediately. He advanced, his armor creaking with each deliberate step.

Then, without warning, he drew his sword.

With a swift, brutal motion, he drove it through Malrik’s chest.

The Strategist did not even have time to scream.

A deathly silence fell over the hall.

Kaelos withdrew his blade from the lifeless body and wiped the blood off against his gauntlet.

— "I want only warriors who are loyal."

His gaze swept across the room.

Some generals trembled. Others lowered their eyes. But only a few remained impassive.

Kaelos now knew who had to die.

The Night of Judgment
That night, the purge began.

Soldiers suspected of ties to the SECRET were gathered in the great courtyard of the Bastion.

No trials. No negotiations.

The defiant were executed on the spot.

The sound of bodies collapsing echoed through the frozen night air.

In the shadows of the fortress walls, some watched in silence, terrified.

By morning, Kaelos Drak stood before his remaining troops.

Before him, those who remained standing were the most loyal, the most ruthless.

He spoke in a cold, unwavering voice.

— "Those who died last night were not traitors…"

He let the words linger.

— "They were weak."

A shiver ran through the ranks.

— "The SECRET had already claimed them. We acted in time."

Then, he raised his sword.

— "We march on Aethra. And we will burn everything if we must."

A thunderous roar erupted from his warriors.

Kaelos Drak had no intention of being consumed by this invisible force.

He would extinguish it in blood and fire.
