This week, I am very excited about the theme of the 1960s. It was an incredible era musically, so I’m delighted to share my rendition of “You Don’t Own Me” by Lesley Gore.

Let’s travel back to 1963 when Lesley Gore, at the age of 17, recorded this song, which became a hit in her singing career.

“You Don’t Own Me” conveys a message of independence and became an anthem of empowerment and inspiration for women. It emphasizes that we are not anyone’s property and should live our lives as we desire. This classic has been covered by various artists, with the most recent version being SAYGRACE’s collaboration with G-Eazy in 2023. You can listen to it here.🌟

I discovered this song during an evening with @leonardo.audio, where we were analyzing and sharing songs we each liked. Leo introduced me to SAYGRACE’s version, which I loved, and from there, I explored the original and got hooked on the melody. So, as soon as they mentioned the possibility of choosing this theme, I started preparing this song.

I’ve dedicated extensive time to developing my version of this song, infusing it with the strength I wanted to convey. I also put together a 1960s-inspired outfit, naturally opting for vibrant red, a color that, for me, exudes power and personality. My accomplice, @leonardo.audio, helped set the scene, meticulously arranging the lights to create a spotlight effect, and adding a touch of color to the stage to ensure everything matched seamlessly. He also handled the mixing and mastering, using the ideal processes to achieve that authentic '60s sound.🎙

With all of this combined, I embodied Melitza with a coquettish and daring personality, who loves to play with the melody, singing to the world that she belongs to no one and possesses strength, power, and heaps of personality. 😏🔥🤭✨

Quiero hacerles llegar mis agradecimientos a cada persona que votó por mí en la semana 7. Estoy muy feliz de que hayan valorado de esa manera mi esfuerzo y constancia durante estas 7 semanas y me hayan llevado a obtener el segundo lugar en esta competencia. ¡Mil gracias! ¡Los quiero!💖

Esta semana estoy muy emocionada por la temática de los años 60. Fueron unos años increíbles musicalmente, así que estoy muy feliz por compartirles esta interpretación de “You Don’t Own Me” de Lesley Gore.

Nos transportamos al año 1963, cuando Lesley Gore, a sus 17 años, grabó esta canción, convirtiéndose en un éxito en su carrera como cantante.

“You Don’t Own Me” es una canción que transmite un mensaje de independencia, que pasó a ser un himno de emancipación e inspiración para las mujeres, donde se enfatiza que no somos propiedad de nadie y debemos vivir nuestras vidas como deseemos. Es un clásico que tiene muchas versiones realizadas por distintos artistas, siendo la más reciente la versión de SAYGRACE junto a G-Eazy en 2023. Aquí la pueden escuchar.🌟

Esta canción la conocí en una velada junto a @leonardo.audio, donde estábamos analizando y compartiendo canciones que a cada uno le gustaban. Leo me mostró esta versión de SAYGRACE que me gustó muchísimo; de ahí nos fuimos a la original y quedé enganchada con la melodía. Así que, apenas hablaron de la posibilidad de escoger esta temática, empecé a preparar esta canción.

Estuve estudiando mucho para desarrollar mi versión de esta canción, con la fuerza que quería imprimirle, sumándole un outfit inspirado también en los 60s, por supuesto, en color rojo, color que para mí transmite fuerza y mucha personalidad. Mi cómplice, @leonardo.audio, me ayudó a ambientar el set, colocar las luces, dando la sensación de un reflector, y un toque de color a la escena para que todo hiciera match. También hizo el trabajo de mezcla y master, donde usó los procesos ideales para lograr este sonido de los 60s.🎙

Unido a todo esto, trabajé en esta "Melitza" con una personalidad coqueta y atrevida, que ama jugar con la melodía, para cantarle al mundo que no le pertenece a nadie, que tiene fuerza, poder y mucha personalidad. 😏🔥🤭✨

Espero disfruten tanto como yo de esta versión de “You Don’t Own Me” y que se sientan tan inspiradas e inspirados como yo.✨
