Splinterlands Art Contest!

Hello guys, this week has been super fun xd. I haven't participated this fast in this many contests and posted blogs in a short amount of time in a long time now. I was working on the background for holozing contest yesterday so I wasn't sure if I could make and post this on time but surprisingly I finished it hehe.

The Process

I decided to use pen pressure on this lineart as well. I didn't like the result to be honest. There are many things I still don't know about lineweight. I follow a simple rule for now which is pick a direction for the source of light and then use more lineweight on the opposite side of the character. I'm having some trouble with some edges. Maybe I'm overthinking I'm not sure haha. After finishing the painting it looked good though. I was really surprised to see that xd.

The reference I used for this painting is a pose of Kefla, a character from dragon Ball super anime. I loved her pose with confident attitude so I decided to draw our fierce kazi in that pose. Once I was done with the lineart. I experimented a bit with adding black shadows and boy that was a let down xd. Need more knowledge about that so I discarded the idea and proceed with the usual style.

Since the character was based on fire I knew that it's gonna rock when I add the glow. I was very satisfied with the flame effect and the character looks much more alive now. Had some trouble with the shading. It's been a while since I painted one with strong contrast formed by fire. I felt like I forgot a bunch of things I did when I was drawing old paintings. Side effects of taking a long vacation I guess. With that being said I hope you enjoyed the process shots.
