In the quiet, big space at the entrance of the library is a young student named Joe. Joe has shown his intelligence in his results from his first year at the tertiary institution. A life that many envy and others find to be an inspiration to work harder. It was a Saturday morning, the library was locked, and his project was due for submission on Monday. Getting to the entrance, he sat in one of the arranged seats with his laptop and bag on the table.
All his focus was on the research, as he was working tirelessly to race against time. Not doing well in the research means a slack in his overall performance. Coming first and being the overall best in the class has been his everyday dream, but it seems the lack of power in his system and the impromptu assignment are fighting forces against his crown.
The news of the deadline being Monday sent great fear to his spine. The calm and quiet environment was a good place to calm his fear and mind. Everything was overwhelming, and he needed something to distract him and, at the same time, keep him refreshed. A chilled plastic fruit drink he added while packing his learning materials did the job.
Just when he felt he was feeling better and about to get serious again, The power supply was interrupted, and checking the power on his laptop and how far he had gone left him feeling devastated. He was checking his time and was clueless about when the light would be restored. He quickly packed his belongings.
His walking step was enough to tell his mind wasn't at rest.
His ringing turn brought a distraction to his disorganized walking steps and his stranded-looking face. It was Jared, his sister.
"Joe, you have to rush home now."
"I'm actually on my way home, but I'm not really in the right frame of mind. My project is half done, and the power supply was interrupted. I'm left stranded," he replied painfully.
"I know how badly you needed the power supply. The good news is that there is power supply currently," she shouted happily.
"Really!!? I'm the happiest person right now and I'm getting home as fast as possible." In excitement, he boarded a taxi back home. With the power supply, he was able to round off his research successfully.
I'm glad things worked out for Joe in the end. Being faced with a deadline that practically determines your fate would send anyone spiralling. But he handled it like a champ and luck smiled at him.
