Weekend experiences # week 183: A weekend without a mobile phone

Living without your mobile phone for one weekend ?

Another striking question by @galenkp to make your mind wander - why ir why not?

Several times I have raised this question myself as to what will happen if I keep my phone untouched atleast for few hours. But sorry, it never becomes possible.

Not because I wanted to use the phone, but an untimely call, from college where my children are studying or from home, disturbs me a lot because my aged parents are all alone. At that very point I try to reach them and if no response I immediately disturb their neighbour.

Another reason being, due to my busy schedule in the kitchen, I like to keep the mobile playing for news and songs🎵. Another way of being happy in kitchen.

One of the worst fact being the beep sound for notification in groups or close family members which drags me to check, to what exactly is going on.

I become more vigilant because domestic and personal messages just drop in my inbox. To say, the disruption of the current pops up from the electricity board then and there, an alert from the groceries regarding discounts and offers from our regular supermarkets, reminders from college and about upcoming events to be held, messages from banks regarding updates and follow-ups...... these are just a few to mention.

At this point, I remember a friend of mine who with her family, took a stay in a resort, in South India, deep inside the forest, away from the city. And the main criteria of the resort being "mobile phones are prohibited here". Sounds interesting but that was the truth. It was a no network zone. To her amazement, she found most of the tourists to be entrepreneurs and businessman who wished to spent a short vacation with their family members, away from mobile phones.

Shortly, after her return I called her asking what she gained from such a trip. Her answer was peace of mind, mental satisfaction and above all, togetherness with family.

To be with or without a mobile is one's own choice. But away from distractions and gaining peace is a real challenge by one own self.
