A fight of knights at a village festival
Hello everyone, I hope you had a great day. Two days ago I wrote about a journey to the Middle Ages and an exhibition where knight suits were displayed. It reminded me of a bit weird day some time ago, which I am going to write about today in my daily blog.
It was a warm and sunny day and I had free time for a short walk with my children. Scrolling through the news about the happenings in the city, I found the news that in the Kumodraz settlement, on the outskirts of Belgrade, an event is being held on the occasion of a village holiday. Today it is an urban settlement, but it used to be a village and it has kept its village traditions and customs. I read that the event was interesting for children and we headed there.
The location of the event was the spacious courtyard of the Church of the Holy Trinity, built at the beginning of the 20th century. The church is on a hill, so the air is fresher and less polluted, so it was very pleasant for us when we climbed up and entered the courtyard.
In the yard, a tent with a Serbian flag and knightly equipment was set up, which children could try on in an interactive workshop.
Musical instruments were also set up, so the children had a great time playing.
And then the fight of the knights began. It was so realistic that I felt like we were in the distant past of the Middle Ages.
As the fight went on, I had less and less the impression that it was a performance and it seemed like a real fight.
The girl knight, who was the most energetic, especially caught my attention.
I couldn't catch all their movements with my eyes because they changed positions and moves from second to second. I was afraid that their swords would accidentally fly away or that they might hurt each other or someone.
I felt weird. Lots of tension, intense fighting, children's joy and people's delight. I think I was the only one who felt fear.
I don't know why I was scared because it was just a performance aimed at preserving tradition and entertaining children. I thought that violence should never be the solution to conflicts and that words are mightier than swords.
I decided to stop such thoughts and to relax a bit and just at that moment during the performance the knights cut a plastic bottle with a sword as part of their performance and a part of the bottle flew straight towards me and hit me. I couldn't believe it was happening. 😊
It was definitely not an event for me, but what is important is that my children had a great time. They liked our medieval day and escape to some other reality. And I think that night I dreamed of knights and fought with myself to stop being so timid.😊
Thank you very much for reading.
The images and writing are original and mine.

It's a great performance! I really admire kids who are very talented when it comes to role-playing. I remember myself being part of our youth ministry years ago and we also had some theatro performances.
It was an interesting performance indeed and the children were animated to show their talents and learn about tradition and history...
That's totally amazing since some kids don't prefer knowing history.
It would be nice to witness such a reenactment. Even here I've heard of them being done. Since you felt fear while everyone else cheered it must have been pretty realistic, hehe. Hopefully you have some nails left, hehe joking.
Hahaha I survived, but it was quite tense 🤣
Beautiful festival.
