Specifically the info I needed was on why having it done is such a crucial part of your culture.

When I was growing up we had a friend who died from sickle cell anemia so I'm familiar with the condition, but was not aware of how pernicious it was in some peoples.

It's not actually tag to culture. It's more of a precaution from bearing children with the "sickle cell" disease. It's more medically inclined than cultural consideration

sure, but it's not something which is regular in many places.

I was happy to learn about it, and may well do more research, but you should know that such consideration is very much not part of normal dating discourse in many parts of the world.
